Hannah’s BBQ – Granite Falls, NC

A Surprising Standout in Western North Carolina

Hannah’s BBQ in Granite Falls was one of those stops that quietly sneaks up on you and then completely wins you over. Tucked into a small strip mall just behind a McDonald’s, this spot doesn’t scream destination barbecue at first glance—but once you step inside, the smell of real wood smoke immediately sets the tone. The dining room has a warm, Southern feel with nods to barbecue history, and you can see straight into the kitchen as soon as you walk through the door. While we didn’t get a clear look at their smoker, it appears to be built indoors—and whatever they’re doing back there is working.

We came hungry and ordered a wide spread: pulled pork, brisket, ribs, smoked chicken, and a lineup of classic sides including baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad, Brunswick stew, and hush puppies. The pulled pork stood out right away with a strong smoke profile and a well-balanced dry rub that delivered both sweetness and spice. The sauce was mixed in lightly, allowing the pork itself to shine without being overpowered. The brisket was juicy and cooked properly, though it leaned mild in flavor—solid, but not the star of the table. The ribs sparked some friendly debate between us, which is exactly why we review together. One of us loved the doneness and flavor, while the other preferred them a bit more tender, but both agreed the seasoning and sweetness were on point.

The real sleeper hit of the visit was the smoked chicken. Juicy, smoky, and falling right off the bone, it was a unanimous favorite at the table and something we’d happily drive out of our way to eat again. The sides at Hannah’s were consistently above average, with hush puppies being a standout—crispy on the outside, tender and slightly sweet on the inside, and perfect for dipping in their house sauce. The baked beans were thick, smoky, and saucy without being overly sweet, and the Brunswick stew was hearty, chunky, and easily one of the better versions we’ve had so far on our travels.

Pit Stop Rating Summary

Hannah’s BBQ delivers a well-rounded experience built on strong smoke flavor, quality meats, and sides that clearly get the same attention as the barbecue. While not every item was a knockout, nothing missed the mark, and several dishes—especially the pulled pork, smoked chicken, hush puppies, and Brunswick stew—stood out in a big way. Add in friendly service, a welcoming atmosphere, and deep local roots, and Hannah’s earns its place as a Top 25 contender and a must-stop if you find yourself in Granite Falls or nearby Lenoir.
