Barbecue Center, Lexington NC

In this barbecue review for Pit Stop Adventures, the team visits Barbecue Center in Lexington, North Carolina, after finding their originally planned destination, Lexington Barbecue, closed for the evening. The unexpected stop quickly became a highlight, with a packed dining room just minutes before closing, fast service, and an old-school atmosphere featuring Lexington Barbecue Festival posters along the walls. They sampled pulled pork, smoked chicken, white slaw, baked beans, potato salad, and hush puppies, finding the meats especially impressive. The pulled pork delivered classic Lexington-style flavor with clean smoke and excellent moisture, even late in the day, while the traditional red barbecue dip complemented the meat without overpowering it and was good enough to take home a jar. The smoked chicken was another standout, featuring tender meat that came easily off the bone and flavorful skin with a noticeable but balanced sage seasoning. The sides were traditional and satisfying, with the baked beans standing slightly above the rest for their seasoning, while the hush puppies offered a crispy exterior and soft center. Although they didn’t have room for dessert, the enormous banana splits arriving at nearby tables inspired plans for a return visit with extra help. Overall, Barbecue Center earned 92.75 out of 100, placing fourth on the team’s barbecue list at the time of the review and turning an unplanned detour into a spot they would happily visit again.
