Boss Hog BBQ, Sherrills Ford

Boss Hog BBQ logo

Boss Hog BBQ in Sherrills Ford is one of those places you can drive past a dozen times and never think twice about, but once you finally stop in, you realize you’ve been missing out. It sits inside an old gas station that’s been completely redone, and they did a great job keeping that rustic, local feel while making it comfortable and inviting. It feels like a true North Carolina barbecue spot, simple, welcoming, and focused on good food.

The food is a bit of a mixed bag, but there are some real standouts that make the visit worth it. The ribs are easily the highlight and some of the best you’ve had so far. They are tender, flavorful, and cooked just right with a great bite and clean pull from the bone. Pair them with the firecracker sauce and they really shine. The pulled pork is juicy and solid, though a little basic in flavor compared to some other spots. The brisket unfortunately falls short, coming out overcooked and not as juicy as you’d hope, even though it still had a decent smoke flavor.

The sides help round things out in a good way. The potato salad is a must get, creamy and packed with that classic homemade Southern flavor that stands out right away. The baked beans bring something a little different with a hint of bell pepper and even a slight coffee note that adds depth. The coleslaw is simple and straightforward but does the job. With a variety of sauces to try, from vinegar-based to sweeter options, there is plenty to mix and match with your meal.

Overall, Boss Hog BBQ is a solid stop, especially if you are in the area and craving great ribs and classic sides. It may not be a place you go out of your way for, but it is definitely one you come back to when you want something reliable and satisfying.
